Nervous as all things, as he always was when he tried to find time to see Brennan Elli walked along the side walk to the man's house. Those aqua eyes looking up and down and from side to side like he expected to see someone or anyone familiar or his boyfriend at all tailing him....well...at leas the one he went home to at night boyfriend. His heart tightened. His greed and need and the selfish feelings for this so sweet man had grown to the point that he couldn't stop. Couldn't.
This new man that is. Brennan. Who was his.....other boyfriend. The one he wanted to be with but god he knew he didn't deserve him. Knew it was only a matter of time until he hurt him because it was going to happen and God he just needed to stop thinking about it. He did...but how could someone stop thinking about something so terribly hurtful to a perfectly good man?
He tried to put it aside however once Brennan's house was in view. Carefully he snuck up the side of the house and slipped into the back yard. Watching the windows as he settled in the middle of the back yard and placed the basket he had down. From there he took out the blanket and laid it flat on the ground before going for small tea light candles in little holders so nothing would catch fire....hopefully. He swallowed hard at that thought but shook his head as if to shake it from mind and then started to light the candles. When he finished he sat down on the blanket and pulled out his cell phone, quickly sending Brennan at text that he was down the road from his house but he seriously thinks someone just went diving into his back yard.

[atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true] It was late. Not too terribly late, but a bit later than Brennan had wanted. Even on his birthday it seemed he was always helping others, always cheering them up and making their days better, sometimes a little "how do you do" wouldn't hurt pointed in his direction, right? It didn't really matter, he supposed, but he didn't get to see his boyfriend today. On his birthday! After a long day at work, Brennan had kicked back onto his couch with a a sigh, tousling already messed hair. Even though his day had been pretty not-as-great-as-it-could-have-been, Brennan refused to be negative. A small smile creeped onto his lips as he remembered what happened just a bit ago. A stupid and sudden move, he asked Elijah out. Was that even considered asking him out? The jumbled sentences that came out in a rush, as well as.. other emotions.
In his daze, Bren nearly didn't notice the loud buzz coming from the coffee table under his feet. Twice, a message, "bzz bzz". With a great reluctance and a heave of a grunt, as if his fairly young and in-shape body could not handle moving a few inches, he reached for his phone. Letting his gaze slip across the mixture of letters on the screen, alarm slowly began to ring in Brennan's warm eyes. An intruder?
Well, living in a city and practically growing up on the streets, Brennan knew a thing or two about holding his ground. Many people would own precautionary weapons, but seeing as this particularly peaceful fellow was not near the usual hiding place for his bat, which was situated quite nicely next to his bed. Brennan was not the harming type, but he was always ready to defend, and he had a pretty nice swing thanks to a passion for baseball as a kid. The closest thing he had to a weapon was a wooden spoon from the kitchen, which he slipped craftily into his palm.
Haha, funny funny, the pastry maker using a wooden spoon as a weapon, what else was new? Anyways, on careful toes, Brennan sneaked to the back patio, spoon in hand. He peeked out and walked onto the patio to be faced by a familiar bluenette, and an expression of super ninja concentration turned to shock, and then to joy. A blush may have even been visible on his cheeks, but nothing major, just flattered that such a fragile being would come out in the night, but a part of him worried. Maybe he was being a bit overprotective, but bad things happened in the night, even in a safe city like Westford.
But nonetheless, Brennan was ecstatic, and let out a small chuckle. How cheesy, a picnic by candlelight. It was perfect though. Elijah was perfect. "... You had me really worried for a second," he paused for a second, biting his smiling lip. "You didn't have to!" Yes, he did. Brennan's night was pretty much just made one thousand and five times better than it was moments ago, and his grin could have possibly shown that. Either way, the man walked over to his boyfriend and hugged him for a bit. What a great guy, really. |

Elli fidgetted as he waited for the other to come on out back or so he hoped. Oh god. What if Brennan was sleeping? He did work awful hard though Elli had told him he would at least call when he knew he got off from work. But who knows. People get tired. People forget. He bit at his bottom lip and watched the patio door a moment before looking about the candles. Fussing with one and pushing it this way and that way, trying to make them look perfect before he settled the candle back to where it originally was.
That being when he heard the door open. Quiet, terribly quiet but still Elli picked it up. Years of being jumpy would do that to you. Years of being careful. Years of stepping around egg shells. Aqua eyes raised to see Brennan tip toeing his way on out with a.....wooden spoon. Elli had to fight now to laugh. He really did. Though all the same he suddenly felt terrible for the trick. A wooden spoon? Was he serious? People could hurt him worse then Brennan could hurt then with a wooden spoon.
Some how though he found his voice as the other started at he scene before him, and even more miraculously some how it came out a bit teasing and naughty. Tiny threads of the more comfortoable, playful, and confidet Elli popping out for just a moment to try and make Brennan feel better about trickery. "Was I naughty?" He asked cocking his head so slightly. The heat of his blush flooding over his face before he cast his eyes down. The things he said these days. They could be so terrible. He stood though as Brennan came over to greet him, stuttering about as Brennan told him he had him worried. "I-I'm so s-s-sorry! I ju-just wanted t-to do something n-nice for you birthday." He Managed to get out before the other man hugged him. Immediately Elli melted. Amazing that was seeing as Elli melted over nothing when someone touched him. Always too scared. But he did for Brennan, arms wrapping around the other man and smoothed up his back as he nuzzled his face in against his neck. He stayed like that a moment, feeling safe and content before he pulled his head back and placed a soft kiss to the man's lips. "Happy birthday."

[atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true] Innocent, innocent Brennan recognized Elijah's sly comment before he pulled the other into the hug. Now he felt silly, being tricked into a suprise birthday present. It was good though, a good silly, a silly he felt from his head to his toes for this other man. Brennan didn't think he'd ever get over the shock of Elli's fingertips, on his back and anywhere they dragged along the canvas of his skin. "No, it's okay. I love it," he mumbled quietly, letting the two stand like buildings, and even in the silence Brennan felt comfortable. Happy, relieved, infinite. As Elijah's face neared his neck, the cafe owner felt utterly happy, even after the long wait of the day, it was worth it. Perfect, even.
For a moment they stayed like that, strong as towers and happy as clams. Or at least Brennan was. The hand opposite of the "defense weapon" tangled into blue hair for a few seconds before the other pulled away and their lips met in a soft electric current. "Happy birthday to me." A pause followed and Brennan moved away, placing the wooden spoon in his back pocket and glancing at the romantic scene. "This is so awesome, Elli.." he said quietly, admiring the cheesy scene. It was almost laughable, the picnic in the dark, but it really was flattering. It made him happy, and Brennan couldn't stop his childish smile. "So what's in the basket?" Eager as he was, it was his birthday and after a long day of work (because he would never take a day off of work unless he was sick, even on his birthday, this workaholic), he felt entitled to ask questions. After all, his boyfriend couldn't deny him the right to know what was going to happen on his birthday, could he? Brennan hated surprises, but he loved them too. So exciting, but the anticipation always killed him. He wasn't very patient with special surprises. |

He smiled happily against the other man's neck upon hearing that he loved it. Good because Elli, though for all the years he had been in a relationship with his boyfriend, was terrible at the romantic things. He read about them in books but when it came to actually doing something he was never sure. He liked the classic things. He thought the classic things weren't so very done these days so it meant something to do something different right? And Classics always stayed in style right? He didn't know. He just figured Brennan would be one to enjoy the sweetness of the little and simple but thoughtful things.
"I hope I can help make it a nice one." Not at all conceeded Elli was. He didn't think he was the start to anyone's day honestly. Not when he was told how useless he was day in and day out. How many things he did wrong, how he could improve on something. He shuddered, Pushed the thoughts away because he refused as always to let them seep to full into his mind. Eyes opening after a moment watching the candle light flicker across Brennan's face. He raised a hand from Brennan's back and brought it around to reach for his face. Finer tips lightly smoothing along the bone of his cheek. He smiled shyly before Brennan pulled back and Elli's hands fell back to his sides before they crossed over his chest. Nervously bitting down on his bottom lip as Brennan told him the picnic was awesome.
Another small bright little smile curled at the corners of his lips. Some confidence sparking at the praise. "I hoped you might like it. I wanted to do something nice for you....meaningful." He murmured one hand raising to tuck a stray strand of hair behind his ear before the other asked what was in the basket. He flushed further. "A few things that I picked up that you seem to enjoy....and cake...I made cake too....and grape sparklers....I forgot my ID and was refused to buy wine. I guess I don't look twenty-one."

[atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true] "You already made it one of the best." Brennan smiled his charming smile at Elijah. Little did the broken one know, the fact that he was running through the friendly man's head. Just the fact that he made time for the pushy amber eyed fellow every once in a while was the best, and he didn't even know the half of it. Brennan enjoyed the simple pleasures of life anyways, and prefered something to the heart over something expensive and fancy. After all, his whole childhood was living off of life itself, wasn't it? The moment before they parted made his big heart jump, and triggered a smile onto his lips. Elijah's touch always made his heart happy, and he didn't think that'd ever go away.
"It's perfect." Brennan watched the shy blunette for a bit, so cute. His boyfriend was the best, he was sure of it. Still, it was an odd experience having all of this done by one of the same gender, but Elijah was quite a bit like a woman. Soft skin, soft hair, an innocence about him in his mannerisms. He was just cute, and Brennan really liked his company. A small tomato tinted blush was already on the other's face, but it wasn't so unusual. "Oooh, cake.." Brennan smiled a mischievous smile at Elli. As he was told about the ID situation, Brennan had to hold back a sarastic whaaaat? nooo. It wasn't Elijah's fault that he had a youthful look to him, but Brennan chuckled to himself. "It's fine. Grape sparklers are good too. And they take me back." he looked at Elijah, trying to reassure him that everything was alright, and even just showing up made Brennan's birthday all the better.
"It's perfect, so let's enjoy it?" They both knew fairly well what alcohol did to them anyways, and now that they were in a relationship, Brennan wouldn't have to feel the need to hold back as much anymore. Dangerous territory. Best to keep it innocent, because even though the tension between the two had seemed to last ages, usually people didn't dive right into the sexual encounters this early in a relationship, did they? Well, considering that they caused the start of their relationship.. No. Brennan leaned over to Elijah and pushed his hair from his forehead and planted a small kiss. "Don't worry about it. You already made my birthday ten times better just by showing up. Especially in such a creative way, haha. This will surely be a night to remember. My first birthday with you." Brennan smiled and pet Elijah's head comfortingly. Too cute. |

Ellie's heart continued to warm at the praise. Something he didn't often get and knowing that he had done something right for a change, knowing he was making Brennan truly happy warmed him to the very core. Made it so hard to leave when it came time to go. Harder and harder each time and already he was dreading having to try and tell Brennan he would have to leave at a certain time. That was odd wasn't it? leaving your boyfriend on his birthday of all things to go home instead of staying the night? Didn't have to do anything of course but he just figured that it was the right sort of thing to do to cuddle up with your significant other for the night on their birthday.
Ellie forced these thoughts as well as so many others away. A tiring task of having to keep doing and redoing it. All so tiring. Thus far so very worth it however for the few hours of joy and peace he got with Brennan. As the other glossed over Ellie saying he had made coupled with that mischievous smile of his it clicked in his mind that he might quite possibly be remembering the last time they had made something...cakish....and Ellie found himself blushing all over, even more so as his aqua eyes found themselves lowering to stare at Brennan's groinal region a moment before they darted straight up to Brennan's face...well...lips. He couldn't at all look him in the eyes at the moment. "Y-yes." He stuttered out. Not that Elli at all disliked what they had done. It felt....well they knew how it felt. Obviously. Because here they were.
He smiled however a moment later as Bren assured him the grape sparkler was good, nodded as the other said they would enjoy it. His smile widening as the other continued to say that Elijah had already made his birthday and absolute memorable one. Sighing so very happily at the gentle way in which Brennan touched him. It was so different. Elli hated comparing but it was and he found himself leaning in as the other kissed his forehead. He was the moth and Brennan was the flame and god the burn was so lovely from him. He tipped his head up after a moment and kissed Brennan's chin before he pulled away and knelt down on the blanket. From there he reached for the contents inside and pulled out the plates he brought for such an occasion and the silver ware then of course what he had learned to be one of Brennan's favorite things to eat (enter whatever that is here!). "I never made it before so I hope I made it right." He murmured serving some for both him and Brennan before he got out the glasses and reached for the bottle of the grape sparkler to open it.
